Mind Your Mind – 2022 Exhibition

Monash University Caulfield Library · MADA Now 2022

"Mind Your Mind" was a curated group exhibition hosted at Monash University's MADA Gallery, focused on mental wellbeing and emotional awareness through design. As a contributing designer, aimed at encouraging reflection, dialogue, and empathy around mental health topics.

Project Overview

A visual identity and spatial branding system developed for Mind Your Mind, an interdisciplinary exhibition held at Monash University’s Caulfield Library. The exhibition explored themes around mindfulness, consciousness, and human connection, and was part of the 2022 MADA Now Graduate Showcase. This project was developed in collaboration with the Monash Centre for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies (M3CS).

Objectives

  • Create an inviting and thought-provoking brand identity to reflect the exhibition’s three core themes:
Mindfulness & Meditation, States of Consciousness, and Connection & Disconnection

  • Develop a cohesive visual system across spatial, print, and digital touchpoints

  • Encourage curiosity and engagement through contemplative and immersive design

Synsation ‘22

As part of the Mind Your Mind exhibition, I co-created an interactive installation titled Experience the Sixth Sense — a digital experience designed to help users explore synesthesia: the blending of sound, vision, and memory.

This experience guided participants through a sound-based prompt system where they visualised what they "saw" when hearing a sound — and then drew what they imagined. The activity aimed to raise awareness about how differently people perceive sensory input, particularly those who experience synesthesia.

Objective

To create an emotionally reflective and sensory-rich experience that invites the audience to:

  • Explore how sound can influence perception and memory

  • Visualise emotions or textures through audio

  • Learn about synesthesia through playful interaction

Conceptual Focus:

  • Synesthesia & Participation

Visitors chose an animal and initials to personalise the experience

    Played ambient sounds through headphones

Visualised sounds with their eyes closed

Drew their imagination, submitted their artwork, and viewed it on a shared display

  • Outcomes & Impact

Engaged over 100+ participants during the exhibition period

Encouraged dialogue around sensory difference and perception

    Strengthened public understanding of synesthesia

Visitors were able to contribute drawings that became part of a shared digital artwork loop

Mind Your Mind – Thematic Overview

  • This section invited visitors to slow down and reconnect with the present moment. Through calming visuals and interactive experiences, it explored the power of breathing, stillness, and inner awareness in navigating daily life.

  • Focusing on the layers of awareness, this segment delved into altered perceptions, sensory experiences, and the concept of the "sixth sense." It challenged participants to question how we perceive reality — through sound, vision, and imagination.

  • This part examined our emotional and social relationships — both with others and ourselves. It highlighted the impact of digital culture, loneliness, and the need for empathy in an increasingly disconnected world.
